Maybe it's the material of their uniforms that was the difference maker. Hopefully, someone will figure out how to use that to the Cubs advantage.
Hey, Michael Phelps was able to use that excuse as to why he lost his race, so why not the Cubs?

The Cubs swept the Washington Nationals last weekend. 4 games, 4 wins.
Nice.
The Cubs almost got swept by the defending champs, the Philadelphia Phillies. 3 games, 1 win.
Not so nice.

So here we sit on the eve of the series before All-Star break, the metaphorical half-way point of the season: Four games in three days with the dreaded St. Louis "We got DeRosa" Cardinals.
The Cubs lost 2 of 3 during the actual half-way point of the season to the Atlanta Braves.
In February, Cub fans were licking their chops.
And buying tickets.
Not so much chop-licking these days...But ticket sales are still strong indeed.

Irony can present itself in various and strange forms.
Cubs fans know this all too well.
The team has been sucking it up all season.
The last two series for the team, however, have been successful, beating the Pittsburgh Pirates 2 out of 3 on the road, and then taking 3 of 4 from the Milwaukee Brewers.

Part 2 of the annual "Crosstown Classic" between the Cubs and the White Sox is upon us yet again. This now-twice-a-year-and-it's-not-really-so-special-anymore "classic" surely has the makings of the snooze-fest the last one brought us.
Our guys, as you know, have been limping this week on the road, losing a 1-game series to Atlanta, and then getting swept in 3 by the Detroit Tigers.
The Sox, in the meantime, seemed to handle the diabolical L.A. Dodgers, best team in the N.L. by the way, quite handily, sans Manny being Manny (boy, that guy is as annoying as his moniker).

The ex-Cub factor.
We hear about it every year. You know how it goes: There's someone who used to play for the Cubs, and now they don't, and then they spank our beloved North Siders with a wink and a grin and a comment lke, "Gosh, I loved wearing the Cubbie pinstripes. I really thought I'd end my career in Chicago."
Uh, right.

Our beloved boys in blue pin stripes continue on their 8-game road trip today with a stop at Minute Maid (formerly Enron Field - suckers!) Park to play the Houston Astros.
Hide your wallets!
That directive is, of course, aimed at the fans.

The Cubs entered June play the same way they left May.
Limp and limping.

Well, Cubs fans, your trusted scribe comes to you today from the nation's capital, thanks to the day job with blues man Lonnie Brooks.
And like most road trips, I do what the players tend to do (albeit in a less than swanky hotel suite): I'm watching a movie, A League of Their Own. Seems appropriate since I won't be anywhere near the Friendly Confines this weekend.

It seems that the Cubs have just bolstered their lineup considerably.
Manny Ramirez has been suspended.
That's right. The star slugger of the Los Angeles Dodgers has tested positive for a banned substance and is out for nearly 2 months.
