It is apparently not enough that an overwhelming majority of American voters – the first clear and unequivocal majority in 2 decades – sent President Barack Obama (and much of the 110th and 111th US Congress) to Washington to enact promised changes, such as healthcare reform…It is sadly beyond the pale that the most distinguished and accomplished legislator in the history of this country – Sen. Edward M. Kennedy – can work his entire life toward achieving fairness and inclusiveness in American healthcare, yet die himself before the ultimate goal can be achieved…It is encouraging that dedicated, career-long public servants from various parts of this country – such as Sen. Tom Harkin (D – IA), Sen, Chuck Schumer (D – NY), and, especially Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D – WV) – are working their careers and reputations and all their saved-up clout off to try and enact these much-needed changes that have been monopolizing the headlines and being debated (and confused AND misunderstood AND – frankly – too often lied about by the RNC and FAUX News crowds) over the last few months.
All of this is prologue and we are on a precipice of succeeding or failing…but, in the middle of the dickering and bickering committee sessions and the misleading polls and the clearly partisan-split battles to truly enact these good-for-all-of-us changes, a moment crystallizes – and a new political hero emerges. Meet the freshman Democratic US Representative from Florida’s 8th District, Alan Grayson, a man who I – even as someone who hungrily follows politics and cruises many news and opinion publications and sites – had never heard of before Wednesday night…
