Unlike many things beyond some of my own writing (hey – you’ve got to like your own stuff, right?), this actually made me laugh out loud when I saw it…
It’s a segment from BBC TV’s Charlie Brooker’s "Newswipe" show – which looks at the inner workings of the news media. And, much to his international audience’s likely surprise, Brooker has discovered the extremes of some of the US’s most notable news sources. MSNBC (and my man, Keith O.) gets a little drive-by mention…but the main target of Brooker’s delightful mocking is FOX News and its troika-of-morons, Billo, the Manatee, and Ever-Cryin’ Beck.
Personally, any exposure to their type of "news" makes me feel like I need a "wipe" afterwards (ahem…sorry there – bad, semi-over-reaching pun)…But it is oh-so-amusing to watch the razor-sharp Brooker and hear his observations about these cable-casting idiots…

First.
The worst part was the guy with the guitar. What an over-patriotic, racist, stereotypical, closed-minded, redneck asshole. Real cute.

watch it,
and cry
or sigh
and be very very careful to take it seriously.

I laughed, I cried (but not as much as Beck), I shot some smack...very entertaining!

Kaotic look in the mirror. You just did some of those items.

He's a racist, stereotypical redneck? So calling him that doesn't make you racist or stereotypical either? Do people even think for themselves anymore?

Sometimes i can't believe my eyes. Is this real or i'm still sleeping?
Is this Charlie Brooker? Then there is nothing to say :)

Top Seller? I brought ten of O'Reilly's books just to burn it.
Bill O'Reilly needs more than just a blowjob. He needs a brain.

Well, he's performing on a racist's show.

America rules? really?
America needs to take a good long look in the mirror. My Father is American, I was born in America and moved to Canada with my Mother when I was very young. I love America and its citizens but I am finding it harder to defend the actions of its Government and some of its people (re:Glen Beck, Rush, Billo etc.) The truth is America is falling behind the rest of the world and if the neocons could pull their heads out of their butts and wake up they would see what the rest of the world sees. Good luck ... you need it

in what brainless world does calling someone a racist make the accuser a racist themselves? The only questionable comment is redneck, but the dude proved that point with his song. If he'd picked someone off the street to call redneck just because of their clothing or liking country music that would be different.

Sorry, Glenn Beck is CNNs Fox Wannabee. Too Bad CNN thought they could get more ratings with the shock and stupidity method that has been so kind to Fox.
Posted by: bud | April 13, 2009 at 12:28 AM
You may have missed it, but Beck is fully part of FOX now...and has been for more than a few months. So, at least they're grouping the crazies together on one channel -- easier to avoid...OR to gaze at in wild wonder...

Don't click the above URL -- it is junk and will be removed...Thanks for all the Diggs and reads!

The problem is that, as I recently discovered, huge swathes of middle-America (small towns, military bases etc) have no access to any cable news at all other than FOX. They don't get MSNBC, and they don't watch free-to-air.
It explains a lot, actually.

Very good point...but, unfortunately, even if many of them DID receive MSNBC, they might STILL not "get" it...

Coming from the U.K I am just very glad that our news channels actually report the news...

What UK news are you watching?
UK news is just as bad at not reporting the RIGHT news, except I like to think we have a high-pass filter so all the crazies get left at the door.
Or end up on Sky, which is just as bad as Fox News.

Don't worry, I can assure you that Fox News is NOT taken seriously over here. They're almost a parody of themselves.

That was kind of underwhelming. I guess you have to be a committed partisan Progressive to find that hilarious.

I'm glad to see that the rest of the world sees our mainstream television news as as much of a joke as I do ... the corporatization of television news has created the downplay of important news that affects a large percentage of the population, a decrease of authentic journalism which follows up the course of investigations, and a decrease of international correspondence with an increase in reporting of petty crimes, celebrity gossip, and other puff pieces which have no real impact on our lives ... and the reason for all this -- because its cheaper ... leaves me with little recourse but to look for news on alternative sources, such as Digg, after its been filtered through a process of peer review ...

When i first watched glenn beck on John Stewart i laughed with him. Watching it again with Charlie Booker.. I am not laughing anymore... The way how divisive and "cultvist" our media has become quite scary..
