Here’s a couple of interesting items from a busy news week in Illinois politics – AND, except tangentially at best, these DO NOT have to do with the death-spiraling "B-Boys," Blago and Burris…

The past three years in a row, there's always one super hyped-up Cubs home game that I manage to score tickets to (thanks, eBay!). The Crosstown Classic, the race to clinch first place in the division, a game against the Cards--whatever. I'm always super excited, my fiance and I get there good and early, there's no pillar blocking our view, and it's a gorgeous, sunny day.

After a thrilling major league debut with the Cubs in a late summer series against the Florida Marlins, RHP Jeff Samardzija has been under close scrutiny by the team’s staff and fans alike. The 24-year-old Samardzija impressed manager Lou Piniella enough in the waning weeks of the '08 season to be included on the Cubs’ ill-fated post-season roster. Now, after a recent win in an exhibition game against the LA Dodgers, he’s starting to prove himself all over again.

It’s been a few weeks since I’ve last covered this topic, but…it doesn’t seem to go away, does it? It seems we’ve been looking – on and off – for a new Senator from Illinois for months now. (Oh, wait – I guess we have…) I mean, don’t get me wrong – we here are very glad that Barack Obama got kicked upstairs to the Big Desk…couldn’t be happier ‘bout that, in fact. But, here we are, one new Governor later, and it seems clear that our Junior Senator seat is about to open up once again.

Those of you who know me, know that writing for The Stonecipher Report and hosting my radio show on WHPK doesn't exactly pay my bills. In order to do that I have to have a "real" job...or at least something close to it. I'm a bartender.
I work at a bar that is frequented by Northwestern University students, supposedly some of the best and brightest young minds in the country.
We haven't covered the topic of drinking too often here at TSR, but an experience at work this past Saturday night has inspired me to vent a little bit about the drinking habits of young Americans.

Jose Contreras wants to return to the starting rotation. Now I guess I’m confused. I thought when we signed Bartolo Colon we had met our quota of broken down, past-their-prime pitchers. Was I wrong? Perhaps we can coax Fernando Valenzuela out of retirement.

Stonecipher and I realized we had perhaps slightly different takes on Secretary of State Clinton’s trip to China and her comments on (among other things) economics, climate change, and human rights…
In his piece, Stonecipher takes Sec’y Clinton to task for her perhaps-slippery verbiage…and he makes a good car salesman / dealership manager / eager customer analogy to demonstrate what he objected to in her approach.
…And, yes, I thought that all made sense...but I actually had another-drill-down-layer of a response to HRC's actions and words in her first major diplomatic trip.

It only took one trip for Hillary Clinton to spark controversy and put the new Obama Administration in an awkward position.
On Friday, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton traveled to China making an effort to rebuild US relations with the world's most populous nation.

Really, it probably only takes one, but just in case that doesn't quite do the trick, we here at The Stonecipher Report present you three:
First up, everyone's favorite losing Senate and Presidential candidate, Alan Keyes.
