Are You Serious Rick Davis!?!

This afternoon, on a conference call with reporters, John McCain's campaign manager, Rick Davis, was asked about why John McCain did not mention the economy at all yesterday while Obama brought it up both on the campaign trail and via a statement from the campaign.
Before getting into what Davis' answer was, it is worth noting that earlier this week a top ranking McCain official admitted "If we keep talking about the economic crisis, we're going to lose."
It is no secret that McCain's camp understands that if they want to win, they're going to need to distract the general public from real issues and instead attack Obama's character.
Back to Davis' response: his answer about McCain completely ignoring the economic crisis yesterday was to spout off to the reporter some empty and general statement about McCain's mortgage plan being an "elixir" for the economy and then going on to say that the campaign shouldn't be a "CNBC news show on the stock market."
Really?
That's how you look at it over in McCain/Palin-world? What else should a campaign focus on right now Mr. Davis?
Actually, this whole thing got me wondering how a conversation with Rick Davis about what should be discussed in a campaign would go...
TSR: "So Mr. Davis, should we discuss Iraq?
RD: "No. Absolutely not. We wouldn't want the campaign to turn into a History Channel show about a war that began way back in 2003...but if you insist on it, then maybe we can talk about the surge."
TSR: "Gas Prices?"
RD: "No, we went OVER this, a campaign shouldn't be a CNBC show!"
TSR: "OK, OK, how about ethics investigations involving candidates?"
RD: "What is this? A Court TV Show?"
TSR: "Well, what's left Mr. Davis?"
RD: (Getting more and more angry) "I'll tell you what's left! What's left is personal acquaintances and the people the candidates choose to surround themselves with like Bill Ayers, Rev. Wright and Mayor Daley's brother!"
TSR: "You mean Bill Daley?"
RD: "Yeah, you didn't see our ad today?"
TSR: "Actually I did, but Bill Daley was the commerce secretary during the Clinton Administration, when your candidate was chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee. They worked together quite a bit and McCain has praised him several times for the great job he did."
RD: "Shut up."
TSR: "Alright, I see that you're getting cranky Rick, two more questions, OK?"
RD: (Yells) "Fine!"
TSR: "You brought up personal connections of Obama's, but what about Charles Keating?"
RD: "Charles Keating is 85 years old! Are you going to viciously attack an old man like that!?!"
TSR: "Uh...wow...I don't really know how to respond to that, but let me give it a shot - the incident in question here took place in the 80s, over 20 years ago. He was younger than 65 at the time. Younger than your..."
RD: "I know how OLD John McCain is, you're just another ageist media type!"
TSR: "Right, OK...well, let's move on, last question."
RD: "Yeah, go ahead Hussein."
TSR: "You're calling ME Hussein? Interesting. OK, whatever...last question Mr. Davis: What's wrong with you?"

...
TSR: "Rick?"

...
TSR: "Rick, where did you go?"
