Who Cares About Hillary's Speech? Who Was That Schweitzer Guy?

    Posted By: Stonecipher

    August 27, 2008

Schweitzer_250x For most people, political junkies included, last night was their introduction to Brian Schweitzer, the Democratic Governor of the State of Montana.

Schweitzer gave a rousing 15-minute speech that had the entire crowd on it's feet by the end.  Bill Clinton was even on his feet, cheering for Obama as Schweitzer led the sea of Democrats on the floor in chants of "Yes We Can" and "O-Ba-Ma!"

Part of the power of Schweitzer's speech had to do with his reasoned and intelligent approach to one of the most important and under-covered issues of the day: energy.  The other moving factor, of course, was Schweitzer's charisma.

Although the 15-minutes of Montana's Governor at the 2008 Democratic National Convention were not as high profile as Barack Obama's Key Note Speech at the 2004 DNC, the feeling was much the same - A rising star in the Democratic Party surprised and wowed viewers around the country and the world.

While those of you who read The Stonecipher Report regularly you know exactly who Brian Schweitzer is, for those who don't however, I wanted to provide a post with more information on just who the Governor of Montana is.  But first, in case you missed last night's speech, here it is:

Unfortunately, at least on CNN, there was no analysis or discussion of Schweitzer's speech afterwords.  The coverage jumped directly into a video about Hillary Clinton and then into Hillary's speech.

So in an effort to satisfy your appetite for Schweitzer, here are some helpful and informative links with more information on the Governor of Big Sky Country:

L.A. Times Article about last night's speech - Gives a brief analysis about the speech last night and provides some mainstream credibility to points that many in the blogosphere have been making for months about Schweitzer.

BrianSchweitzer.com - The official Schweitzer website.

Great New York Times article about Schweitzer - Written in 2006, a profile of the Governor's personality and politics.

Schweitzer: Obama's VP or Democratic Savior? - Well, I guess we can rule the first half of that question out, but this is a piece I wrote back in May for The Stonecipher Report.

Schweitzer on Stonecipher - This link will always have the latest TSR story about Schweitzer on the top, so bookmark the page and check back for Brian Schweitzer updates.

Madame Fleur's Montana Politics Page - Like the above link, this one will have TSR's latest on Montana Politics in general.  Many of Madame Fleur's posts deal with the Governor.

Big Sky Blog - General Montana Blog which has a Montana politics category and also features our very own Madame Fleur's page.

Finally, a picture of Schweitzer and fellow Montana Democrat, Senator Jon Tester:
