Congrats Seattle Mariners! You're Finished First!

If all goes as planned this afternoon in Seattle at 1:40 PM West Coast Time, the Seattle Mariners will officially be the first team to finish their 2008 season and we here at The Stonecipher Report wanted to get a little ahead of the curve and be the first to say: Congratulations Seattle Mariners!
OK, so technically they won't stop playing, but it will be official. The Seattle Mariners will be incapable of winning their division, the American League West, if they lose tomorrow. That means that the only thing left between Jarrod Washburn, Roy Corcoran and the golf course is the pesky little matter of ruling out the American League Wild Card spot...but that should be out of the way within days.
While those of us at The Stonecipher Report were hoping to be the very first to congratulate the team on an efficient season, it seems that the webmaster of the Mariners official MLB website has already ceremoniously removed the division standings from their site, an honor no other webmaster in the Major Leagues has bestowed on his or her team. Not even the lowly Washington Nationals, with their dismal 47 - 85 record have given up all hope and removed the division standings from their web page.
At 50 - 82 and 30.5 games out of first place, it will be time for the next generation of Mariners to get on that bus and head to Seattle.
So Mr. Beltre, Mr. Silva, Mr. Ibanez, enjoy your seats from the bench for the next thirty days or so. Sure you'll be watching guys who were playing in Appleton, Wisconsin; Adelanto, California and Pulaski, Virginia three days ago, but it's still a Major League Baseball game right? And who knows, one of them could be the next Ichiro Suzuki!
Congrats again Seattle!
